The STCA – Short Term Conflict Alert warns the controller if there is a possibility that two aircraft may come closer than the guaranteed safe distance.

Developed by NAV Portugal engineers, the system is based on radar information and flight plan data. The trajectory of each aircraft is calculated and, if any conflict develops, this information is shown to the air traffic controller with sufficient advance notice so that he can act, to avoid the danger.

This tool, from LISATM, allows Lisbon Air Traffic Control Centre to increase its performance and safety levels. 

This is another contribution made by NAV Portugal to improve air navigation safety in the air space under its responsibility.  Portugal thus strengthens its position in the group of countries at the forefront in air navigation safety matters.

This important tool began its operation in January, 23rd 2003.
